These paints have been color tested, firing at 016. They have been mixed with one another and give nice intermediate colors. Use what you think might be comparable. You can paint with your regular palette with the addition of ruby.

Students need to mix comparable colors. They do not necessarily have to purchase mine to paint their color study. Enclosing color palette to help match theirs to mine.

VIOLET SUPPLY SHEET

Please come to class with a palette containing freshly ground paints. If you do not have the paints with the same name as those listed below, do not order new ones. Let’s try to use what you have.

If in doubt, you can do some mixing the first day of class.

Have a palette of adequate size (about 9 by 11 inches). The mini palettes are just too small for the amount of paint we need to put on them and then they do not allow for adequate brush loading.

PAINTS NEEDED: Cream, mixing yellow, light and dark yellow brown, pompadour red, chartreuse, meissen green, chrome green, antique green, black green, ruby rose or soft rose, morning glory blue, dark violet, black, white. Mix your paints to a whipped cream consistency. If the paint is too loose, you will not get enough pigment on the china.

PAINTING MEDIUM: I WILL BE USING A SEMI-DRYING ONE. You may use what you like but I prefer that you do not use Medium Plus or mineral oil or one that dries within a couple of hours. San Do’s or Jane Marck’s are fine. I will have some of mine for sale if you would like to try it.

BRUSHES: Have a wide variety of sizes. It is a must that you have a #4 scroller and then a 06 or 04 liner. Square shaders needed are: #6, #8, #12, #14, and then a large background brush.

Brush cleaner: I will furnish the brush cleaner. It is citrus essence. You must bring a small glass jar for this; plastic will not work. A SECOND JAR WILL BE NEEDED FOR THE GOLD THINNER.

Other supplies needed: notebook, silk, 6 by 6 inch white tile, denatured alcohol, mineral oil, wiping cloths, wipeout tool, large pink sponge, tracing paper, fine tipped sharpie, que-tips, fine tipped ball point pen, fine tipped stylus.

For the embellishments you will need base for gold (NOT PREMIXED), gold that goes onto a painted surface, glass to put the gold on, palette knife for gold only, zebra pen nib and pen holder, stylus, clean small jar to put base for gold in, pine oil. I WILL NOT HAVE GOLD FOR SALE. If you do not want to do the gold, you should be able to use color instead.

Please do not purchase any special supplies. Let’s use what you have.

A limited number of supplies will be available for purchase. A color study of the class project will be available for purchase.

If you need to contact me about supplies, I can be reached at [email protected] and by phone at 281 373-3664.
